Sir George White was an officer of the British Army and recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. He is especially remembered for his part in the Siege of Ladysmith (1899-1900), during the Second Boer War.
